Mobile Movies has been developed by Liverpool John Moores University’s International Centre for Digital Content (ICDC). Running from June 2007 - March 2008, the project aimed to create a new generation of filmmakers and encourage young people to:
- become confident producers of innovative digital content
- create a platform where they can share their views and talent with a wider community, using the Mobile Movies website to raise their creative profile
- develop their media skills and explore the educational and career opportunities that are available in their region
Altogether, over 110 young people aged 13-19 from Merseyside and the North West were involved in the project, taking part in designing the website, learning how to produce broadcast quality films, attending screening events, gaining work experience and running their own bursary scheme media arts projects.
The Big Mediabox award funded Mobile Movies. Mediabox is a £6 million Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) fund for disadvantaged young people aged 13-19 living in England. Mediabox awards grants for creative media projects, such as short films, radio programmes, print, games and online projects.

14 young people, representing the different organisations, were invited to attend a 3 day MasterClass in February 2008. Here the students were given the chance to develop their own ideas with a film scriptwriter, act, produce and direct their own movies under the guidance of a group of professional mentors and industry specialists. The students were then taught how to edit and output their movies for film, web and mobile phone. All the movies can be viewed in full here.
